SAN DIEGO, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — 1 STOP Furniture Warehouse, San Diego Professional Football Linebacker Larry English and a host of local businesses team up to salute our military. Since 2001, we have lost over 4,100 young servicemen and women and over 34,900 soldiers have been wounded. This has left thousands of our nation’s heroes and their families to confront financial and emotional hardship. On November 28,( )2009, 1 STOP Furniture Warehouse will be hosting a charity event open to the public to help raise funds for these American heroes, with the proceeds benefiting Freedom Is Not Free (FINF), a San Diego non-profit organization dedicated to assisting wounded service members, their families and the families of the fatally wounded.
This one-day event, featuring first-round draft choice and sack leader, Larry English, is being held to raise money and awareness for our wounded service members and their families, and the families of the fallen. Larry will be in attendance during the day, meeting the public, signing autographs and supporting our military families. 1 STOP Furniture Warehouse will donate a portion of all sales made during the day to FINF. Dozens of local businesses have graciously donated more than $10,000 worth of products and gift certificates that will be raffled to help raise additional funds. Among the exciting prizes and gifts are: Complimentary Rounds of Golf; Golf Clubs; Furniture; Dental Services; Surfing Lessons; and free dining at San Diego’s premier dining establishments. Radio stations 105.7FM and 1090AM will be on-site providing music and entertainment throughout the day. The ‘Walrus’ “Stuff the Bus” van will be available to fill with toys for the Marine Corps Reserve’s “Toys For Tots” program. Guests are encouraged to bring unwrapped toys to donate to this worthwhile and deserving charity.
Among the local businesses that have come together to help sponsor the event are: Ruths Chris Steakhouse; Sambuka Italian Bistro; Olde City Bar & Grill; Nick’s At the Beach; Pat & Oscars; Boomerangs; Riverwalk Golf Course; Lomas Santa Fe Country Club; Taylor Made Golf; Knockout Pizzeria; Sorrento Valley Dental Care; OB Surf Shop; 1 STOP Furniture Warehouse; and many others. Complimentary pizza and soft drinks will be served throughout the day. The event runs from 11 AM – 4 PM, Saturday, November 28th, at 1 STOP Furniture Warehouse, 7720 Formula Place, San Diego, just two (2) blocks north of the pyramid off Miramar Road.
Said FINF Executive Director, Jay Kopelman, “This is an extremely generous gesture by 1 STOP Furniture, Larry English and the other retailers and businesses coming out to support this event. It’s that much more generous when one considers the challenging economic climate we face today. The holidays are a time when we at Freedom Is Not Free are inundated with requests for assistance, so the timing of this event couldn’t be better. By giving of his already limited time, Larry English continues a long tradition of giving back to the community that we have come to associate with the NFL and its players.”
Freedom Is Not Free, a California based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is proud to serve the brave men and women of the military and their families. Since its establishment in 2005, FREEDOM IS NOT FREE has raised funds to serve, support, and increase awareness with the aim of easing our heroes’ and their families’ burdens. We have assisted with travel expenses for families of fallen heroes; purchased “burn-beds” for road side bomb victims; helped to refurbish the Wounded Warrior Barracks at Camp Pendleton, CA; arranged the venue and accommodations for a surviving spouse conference; allocated funds for the purchase of equipment to convert conventional clothing into burn victim “tear-aways”; provided logistical assistance and funding for the renovation of a brain trauma center on Camp Pendleton; and provided funds for living expenses for recovering warriors and their families facing extreme financial hardship. The name of the organization, FREEDOM IS NOT FREE, gives expression to the founder’s sentiment that the brave men and women serving in the military, and their families, were shouldering the price — and all too often the ultimate price — for the freedoms that we ALL enjoy.
Said 1 STOP Furniture Warehouse Vice President, Art SanFratello, “We are so appreciative of all the business the San Diego community has given us over the years. We really wanted to give back and with such a strong military presence, supporting Freedom Is Not Free was just a logical and exciting decision.”
