Disabled Veterans of New York Dedicate Their New Headquarters on Saturday, December, 19
LYNBROOK, N.Y., Dec. 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The following was released today by Disabled American Veterans:
Sidney Siller, State Department Adjutant, announced that the 88 year old nation’s premier veterans service organization will dedicate its’ newly obtained New York State Headquarters on Saturday, December 19, 2009, at 10:00 am.
The Disabled American Veterans, formed in 1920 in Cincinnati, Ohio by Judge Robert Marx, one of President Franklin Roosevelt’s leading brain trusters, currently has over 1.2 million members nationally. The State of New York has 60,000 service-connected members throughout the “Empire State.”
The Disabled American Veterans Department of New York prides itself on giving 88 years of outstanding efforts in advocating and obtaining service connected benefits for disabled veterans and their families. Another of our many programs is to provide “free” transportation for veteran’s hospital visits. Since 1988, Disabled American Veterans in New York has had its wonderful volunteer drivers deliver veterans to their treatment schedules, driving over 13 million miles over this period of time.
This dedication is important to veterans living in Nassau, Suffolk, Queens and Kings Counties, as well as the entire state. This area is the second most veteran populated region in the United States. Many veterans cannot afford to visit Manhattan to claim their rightful benefits.
It is the intention of Disabled American Veterans Department of New York to have veterans serviced from this new facility. A test was run as to the need for this new program on December 5th and 6th, 2009, when over the two-day trial, over 223 disabled veterans submitted new or updated their claims for veteran benefits.
Further, the Department of New York plans to build assisted living facilities for disabled veterans across the State of New York. It is expected that ten (10) such facilities will be built across the State of New York, either on Veteran’s Administration Hospital grounds or proximate to Veteran’s Administration Medical Centers.
Many local officials, together with Disabled American Veterans Department of New York Officers from across New York State and over 250 people are scheduled to attend and support the Disabled American Veterans Department of New York’s dedication of its’ new State Headquarters.
