ARLINGTON, Va., June 6, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Binary Group’s Homeless Connections mobile application has been named among five finalists for a Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) contest — Project REACH (Real-time Electronic Access for Caregivers and the Homeless) and is now entitled to compete in phase two of this competition. The contest collaborates with the Departments of Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services, and the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation. Project REACH challenged the nation’s software developers to create convenient mobile access to resources that the homeless need, when they need it, and where they can get it. “I felt this was our ‘call to duty’ to support our military Veterans who have heroically served our country – particularly those most often forgotten – the homeless,” said Rose Wang, Binary’s CEO.
Binary Group’s mobile application gives homeless Veterans and their case workers quick access to point of service information that is personalized for them. The app is simple and intuitive to use and can function on any smart phone, tablet or computer platform. Similar to the popular app Yelp, the Homeless Connections app quickly brings together localized, disparate resources — pinpointing options for the homeless Veteran. With just a click, a list of local service provider information such as phone numbers, maps and resources that run the full gamut from food and shelter to medical care to relevant job openings becomes available.
“It is no surprise Binary accepted this challenge and delivered. Binary has been applying technology innovation to help solve the ‘big data’ problem associated with the explosion of health data, but what truly separates them from the pack is their passion to support our military, Veterans, and their families both past and present,” stated Major General Elder Granger, MD, US Army (retired), who is a member of Binary’s Board of Advisors and the former Program Executive Officer, TRICARE Management.
Binary Group knows how to make complex things simple, understandable and people-centric. Applying creativity, technically coupled with their first-hand account of our Veterans’ needs, Binary’s new Homeless Connections app will enable our military heroes to navigate complex government processes and systems with a touch of screen.
“This is not just an app. This will be a ‘survival’ tool for many of its users. Veterans and their families have put a lot on the line for us. We were compelled to invest the time to create an innovative approach to making life easier for them,” said Robert Damashek, Binary’s Chief Architect and the brains behind the app’s development.
