Unhappy How do they know?

I called to see about getting a letter from the VA so my sons could take it to their college financial aid office. During the process the person at the VA says to me " Mr xxxxx I can see that you've never been awarded the annual COLA increase for 02,03, or 04." I said that I knew that 03 never made it to me but I thought that it was being applied to repay my seperation bonus(not really a bonus, if you know what I mean). He says no way, I should still get an increase, so he leaves the phone and talks with his supervisor and returns to say they have just called to report this problem and they'll pull my records to check out, and if it's the facts they'll send me the back pay.

Now my question, How much of a pay problem will this cause? I remember during my service time , that anything they do usually screws up your pay for months. Am I worrying for no reason?

Sfc Rick, as an eternal optimist, I don't think you have to much to worry about your pay getting screwed up by this minor financial adjustment. You ought to be glad that they found their error in this matter as it will put a few more of your earned dollars in your pocket. Maybe this was Santa's gift to you this year. LOL

UPDATE!

Still no COLA increase in this payday's check. Called them to check on the progress of fixing the pay problem, and they told me there hasn't been enough time for the computer to post the increases. I said that I completely understand that a couple of weeks is not enough time to correct the problem. They did advise me that it was updated on the Dec 22 and I would get a letter anyday now, telling me they would send backpay within 7-10 days. I told the lady thank you and have a good New Years!

Default Got it today!

I got it today stumpy. They had to manually input the COLA due to my having to pay the separation bonus(not really a bonus) back. They say it will have to be done each year since the system will not increase the COLA's automatically. They paid me the increased difference from last month. They also said I already had 03's COLA added, so only this year's COLA was off. Just glad the system didn't completely break down and screw my pay up for a few months(severe flashbacks of our pay system from the seventies, eighties, and ninety's).

Thanks for asking stumpy!

Rick
