At this time I have an appeal in at Va for percentage claim on Bilateral hearing loss. I have been advise to select the DRO vs Traditional review. I requested a letter from VA listing my SC Disabilities. At the present time I have 40% total. I also requested all medical record that the Va had in their files. On the form listing SC disabilities there were two list as non service connected, Not Incurred/cause by Service. these are Residuals, Malaria 6304 and residuals Scrub Typhus, 6319 non Service connected, Not incurred/ cause by service. I caught both of these on my second tour in Vietnam, as an Infantryman. Each is mention atleast twice in the records that Va has.
My question is can I filed an appeal on these conditions or at least have them listed as service connected and what has anyone received from the Malaria claims? The Scrub Typhus was from a spider bite or some creature of the bug world? I also have Sc with 0% for Multiple Scars, Both lower extremities secondary to shell fragment wounds 7805 and Scars, Right thigh donor site of skin grafts. These are pretty ugly and a noticeable if and when I wore swim suit or shorts. Which I don't do because people want to know how you got them or make wise cracks about how pretty my legs are. I look in the web site for Scars and it referred to disfigurement, but to me that means the face. Am I wrong?or can I file disfigurements on my leg's. each is very visible and large in size. Also and I can't find it someone posted a statement or letter that stated if you were serving a combat tour in Vietnam that va had to recongize that any desess taht you caught would be list as SC. I think it refered to the Sec of Army memo. Thanks Robert |

rearnold, I hope your successful with your appeal. I also hope your using a VSO and not doing this yourself. If your military health records show that you had malaria and typhus scrub while in service it should be service connected. I'm sure it is an oversight on the VA's part. You will only be able to draw compensation if you suffer from residual problems related to those diseases. However, service connection is very important if you have a problem latter on in life. I hope someone will come along with an answer for your scar question. Keep us posted on your appeal.
