The 20 years rule for the protected rating.

    No exam in 20 yrs..........

    This is how it works.

    Example:

    1980 you get 10%. 20 yr clock starts on the 10%

    1990 you are bumped to 50%. 10% clock is still running and a new 20 year clock starts ticking for the 50%.

    2000 you are bumped to 70%. 20 year clock on 10% is met and 10% is protected. 50% clock is now at 10 years and a new 20 year clock starts for the new 70% rating.

    2011 You are reduced to 30%. 10% is protected, 50% is 20 year protected and the 70% clock no longer applies. Farthest VA can lower you is actually to 50% because it is now a protected rating.
