    Ahhh... an attachment. I'd have never guessed. Been trying to copy or paste it in. Let me give that a try.

    Bill Clinton, THe early years

    OK, now I get it. Had to view the image in full size before grabbing the URL. The URL for the thumbnail doesn't work. Then had to go back and remove the attachment to get rid of the thumbnail. That's a lot of work to post a pic.

    Oops... removing the attachment removes the pic. Doesn't look like you can remove the thumbnail

    Think a free hosting site is probably cleanest. I' formerly used image shack but they just dumped everyone one day, PhotoBucket is probably most reliable but never give them a real address when you register. You'll be spammed to death. I've been using AllYouCanUpload. It's free, you don't have to register but I don't know how long they'll be around.

    OK, since this is the "What else would you like to see?" thread, how about a place to host images? That might not be realistic, at least not for all hands. Could require a lot of space if not managed properly. Perhaps by request.

    Picasa looked very promising, past tense. I suspect it'll work just fine for most folks. For me, it's a POS. It wants to install software. I wouldn't let it do that. Then it wanted to install an upload control. That ain't gonna happen either. This is pretty much typical behavior for most photo sites and management tools. None of this stuff is even remotely necessary. I know how to use my file system, I understand where things are at and I understand how "I" want to organize things. All I really need is some place to be.

    You can manually upload photo's through the Picasa website, you don't have to use the software. I find it handy because if can allow you to manipulate the photos, like removing red eye or enhancing colors. But definitely not necessary to host pictures online.

    Just testing here. Playing around with Picasa

    [IMG]

    OK, didn't like that. Picasa provided me a link to the image but placing it between img tags didn't didn't display the image.

    This is the link: http://picasaweb.google.com/TinCanMan2/CompassIsland/photo#5161564135761287186

    I notice a couple of other deficiencies. Very limited in allowing you to organize images under a folder structure. Seems you can only create a new folder in the root. When you try to create sub folders, there doesn't seem to be any way. Picasa seems to want to use my username in the URL path. Not quite sure I like that, I use a variety of UN's in USENET and would like to keep the personalities seperate. I suppose I could create accounts for each. I also notice Picasa seems to forget I already told it I didn't want to d/l any SW. About one in three attempts to upload results in a request to install SW.

    OK, Picasa provides an HTML formatted link to the photo. It's not right for placing between BB Tags but a bit of editing lets it work that way as above. The two different links point to different places. This is a bit hoaky. I must be missing something here.

    OK, Let's try this link: [IMG]

    Hmmm... looks like picasa mungs the properties of the viewed image. Wonder why they do that?

    Yeah, you need to go to the picture you want to share then click on Link to this photo. It should drop down a little menu and you can select the size you want and then copy the HTML code.
    Code:
    <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/don.lacuran/SnowInAuburn/photo#5157429274304124450">
    <img src="[b][COLOR="Green"]http://lh5.google.com/don.lacuran/R5LemYkZFiI/AAAAAAAAX4s/KLMKzT0t704/s400/IMGP1789.jpg[/COLOR][/b]" />
    </a>
    you want to get everything between the quotes from the src. i highlighted my sample HTML code. now below i will use the IMG tag to display that picture.

    That's pretty much the conclusion I came to. I thought it unusual neither link worked as presented and I had to pick out the pieces I wanted. I can imagine folks that don't understand exactly what a URL consists of would have serious problems getting it to work.
