Marine Staff Sgt. Chad Robichaux Responds to Donald Trump’s Comments About PTSD

Yesterday, Marine Staff Sergeant Chad Robichaux, president and founder of Mighty Oaks Warrior Programs, appeared on Washington Watch with Tony Perkins, a national radio show which airs on more than 240 stations across the country. On the show, Staff Sgt. Chad Robichaux discussed the role his faith played in overcoming his personal battle with PTSD and responded to false reports about comments Donald Trump made about PTSD. Trump made the comments yesterday in a Veterans forum moderated by Lieutenant General William G. “Jerry” Boykin, former commander of the U.S. Army’s elite Delta Force, and Tony Perkins, a Marine veteran, and president of Family Research Council Action.

In the interview, Staff Sgt. Chad Robichaux explained what impact his faith had in his fight with PTSD, “When I simply made the decision to surrender my life to Christ and to live the life that I should have been living all along that’s when my anxiety went away, that’s when my PTSD went away, that’s when the desire to take my life – because I struggled with taking my life – and that’s when all those things went away… When I got on the other side of that I realized that I’d found a cure. It was like finding a cure to cancer – you have to share it.”

When asked about Donald Trump’s response to his question Sgt. Robichaux went on to say, “I came to ask a very important question: what can we do to change the broken system that we have? And I felt he responded to it. The one thing I think they’re twisting that he said was that sometimes some people see things that they shouldn’t see and they can’t handle it. And the sad reality of that is that’s true. And for anybody to twist that to suggest that’s weak is a complete slap in the face and insult to veterans.”

Family Research Council Action President Tony Perkins, the host of Washington Watch, responded, “I made reference to the fact that you had suffered from and overcame PTSD, so to suggest that he was attacking you is just amazing to me. But that’s how the media operates, they twist, they turn, they misrepresent and that was on full display in this particular case,” concluded Perkins.
